Happy Earth Day 2026!

A feeding frenzy going on in my Hawthorn tree this morning. Lots of little birdies feasting on berries got my attention this morning. Mostly Purple finches and an Anna’s Hummingbird hanging out. Ten years ago when I first moved back into Dad’s house, the yard was pretty barren. I consulted a landscape architect on what trees would be a good fit for my odd shape yard that would also be good for attracting birds. He suggested a Hawthorne tree. I don’t remember the variety. I planted two, one didn’t make it and this one with all the berries almost didn’t either. The main trunk died, but a sprout came up and I just let it be for awhile. Many years later that sprout is a full grown tree bringing me a beautiful view this November morning. A true testament that in the garden, sometimes you just gotta let things be and evolve at their own pace. P.S. a little extra water in the heat of Summer doesn’t hurt either! Hahaha!
